A single annual sticker or e-vignette — there are no short-term options.
Frequently asked questions
›How much is the Swiss vignette and how long is it valid?
There is only one option: an annual vignette for CHF 40. The "2026" vignette is valid from 1 December 2025 to 31 January 2027 — 14 months in total.
›Do trailers need their own vignette in Switzerland?
Yes. The vignette is required for motor vehicles and trailers up to 3.5 tonnes, and a trailer needs its own separate vignette. Vehicles over 3.5 tonnes pay the distance-based heavy vehicle charge (LSVA) instead.
›Is the Swiss vignette a sticker or digital?
Both exist: a physical sticker, or the plate-bound e-vignette introduced in August 2023, which can only be bought via the official via.admin.ch portal.
›What happens if I get a new plate for the same car in Switzerland?
If the same plate moves to a new vehicle, the e-vignette stays valid. But if the vehicle keeps its identity and only the plate changes, a new e-vignette is needed.
›What is the fine for not having a Swiss vignette?
The fine is CHF 200, plus you still have to buy the CHF 40 vignette on top.
›Are all motorways in Switzerland covered by the vignette?
Almost all, but the Great St. Bernard and Munt la Schera tunnels are separately tolled on top of the vignette.
›Can I get a refund on a Swiss vignette?
Refunds are only granted in cases of proven duplicate purchase or double debit — there is no general refund for unused validity.
